As a visual artist my motivation is built upon the embodied experience of an ʻinner-act’, that can take place during a  dynamic interplay between two entities. It refers to a bodily-felt affect. the concept of an ʻinner-act’ desires to  describe the resonance one might experience towards a natural landscape or a non-human.

My creative practice is composed of field research and investigative alchemical techniques for making materials from degradable and  natural substances. By dissecting, deconstructing, and translating a phenomenon or object I seek hidden features on various scales of anatomy, capturing its potential and building poetic compositions.

Conceptually, my practice deals with understanding the movement and co-existence of entities, and their densities. The underlying question that is constantly present explores the human position in relation to non-human entities.

Erector Spinae

‘Erector Spinae’ is an herbarium grounded in analogical research on the fibers of plant and human tissue fibers. This artwork reveals and mediates upon the hidden life forms composing our bodies. ‘Erector spinae’ presents a scaled interpretation of the deeper back muscles. The piece exemplifies a smaller version of the envisioned project ‘musculo-vegetal,’ combining the framing and fragmentation introduced in earlier projects.

Ripple Dynamic

Glass

The tides recede and the water slowly pulls back as it reveals how the frequency in the motion of waves acts on the sediment bed. The movement modifies the sand geometry to shape forms in a variety of flowing movements, known as ripples. The ripples are captured by the technique of casting and mold-making. By melting grains of sand, a transparent flowing wave emerges which interacts with the surrounding light. ‘Ripple Dynamic’ forms an altered translation of an energetic dynamic  at the dutch sea.

Fragmented body

The ‘Fragmented Body’ series emerged as a natural evolution stemming from the project ‘an inner-act.’ Comprising both three-dimensional and two-dimensional artworks, this series presents patterns that depict the journey towards a sense of fragmentation, thereby representing an intermediary stage leading towards the proposed project “musculo-vegetal”. These artworks were recently exhibited at the Paper Art Gallery in The Hague, providing viewers with an exploration of the project.

An inner-act

Celery, Chard

A resonance is a sensitivity to the movement of the entities and energies that build up our body. An inner-act attempts to reveal these intimate lifeforms. Bringing the inner to the outer, tapping into resonance.

A composition of fragmented patterns translated from human muscle anatomy. Materials that within their tissues hold protein fibres dissected from vegetables. A discovery in the relation between food and muscles both in terms of nutrition and energy, but also for the material likeness as fibers.

An inner-act seeks to find an essence of culture within nature by bringing equal position to non-human lifeforms that together make up an ecosystem in which we inner-act. The research is conceptualised in a garment resembling a second skin, acting as a mirror to human beholders.
